Two- hundred young adults from the Archdiocese of Miami will travel to Australia July 7th- 23rd to participate in the 23rd annual World Youth Day (WYD) events. Archdiocesan officials also making the trip are Auxiliary Bishop Felipe Estévez, Director of Youth & Young Adults Ministry Sister Ondina Cortes and pastor of Immaculate Conception Church Fr. Francisco Hernández.
"I truly believe this worldwide event called upon by Pope Benedict XVI is under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to make our youth witnesses of a different kind of world where hope has a possibility,” Bishop Estévez said.
"Pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Miami are looking forward to this encounter with the universal Church and our Holy Father and as the World Youth Day theme suggests... they hope to be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to be Christ's witnesses,” Sister Cortes said.
World Youth Day is an invitation from the Pope to all the youth of the world without any kind of discrimination. While World Youth Day is a Catholic event, its message is relevant and open for all people. The event welcomes young people of all backgrounds wishing to join the experience.
An estimated 600,000 people are expected to gather for WYD08. For more information on this event log on to worldyouthday.org
