SOUTHWEST RANCHES — Eighth graders Lauren Ferrara and Jacqueline Pecaro, representing
St. Mark School and Broward County, won second and third place ribbons, respectively, at the 55th Florida State Science and Engineering Fair, held in Orlando April 7-10.
Lauren, who competed in the category of Medicine and Health, won second place overall for her project “Dare to Dry.” Jacqueline, who competed in the category of Environmental Sciences, won third place for her project, “Footprints on the Earth: Publix Plastic vs. Green Bags.”
“Our students have worked diligently on their projects and it was gratifying to see them compete at the state level and do so well,” said Georgina Lindskoog, St. Mark’s middle school science teacher.
At the Broward County Fair, both were awarded
first place for their projects.
“Lauren and Jacqueline have long enjoyed science,” said Lindskoog. “As seventh graders they won at the Broward County Fair and then again at the state level.”
At the 2009 state fair, Jacqueline earned third place and Lauren earned first place.
“Lauren also received a Special Award from the Florida Engineering Society and was awarded a Grand Prize ribbon for being one of the top four projects of the 449 projects that competed in the fair that year,” said Lindskoog. “I am so proud of each of them.”
